Stubbornness is the seventh subchapter of Chapter 9: Farewell in Celeste. The subchapter is mostly composed of challenges utilizing cassette blocks, notably featuring new yellow and green variants of the cassette blocks in addition to the usual blue and pink ones. Aside from the argument that Madeline and Badeline have after reaching the subchapter, causing the whole screen to become more desaturated, there are no story moments found in this subchapter.

Gameplay[]

This subchapter will feature cassette blocks in all the rooms which may alternate between blue and pink, blue-pink-yellow, or even blue-pink-yellow-green. The speed of the alternation between the cassette blocks is also variable throughout the rooms, with some being quite slow and some much faster. Wavedashing and wall bouncing will once again be required to complete some of the rooms.

Strategies[]

Room 1

Travel to the right, dashing across the reskinned moon blocks until reaching the middle ledge which will present all four colors of cassette blocks in a row twice. You can simply jump across the first four, but then the next blue one will have a spring on it. Bounce to the right and grab the right side of the pink cassette block when it appears, then wall jump to the yellow one and jump to the green one and you'll reach the end of the room.

Room 2

This room has some skull binoculars available to preview the room, if needed. Jump and dash to the first blue cassette block right before it appears to land on it. From there, quickly jump right and grab the left side of the pink cassette block below. Climb up a bit and then jump to the right to line up a straight up dash next to the appearing yellow cassette block to do a wall bounce. The green cassette block will have appeared by the time you fall to the right, so grab it and jump to the right a little bit before it disappears. You'll land on a spring, but you will need to move to the left after bouncing as to not touch the crystals or spikes above. Move back to the right to bounce on the spring again, and the blocks should change to pink as you're bouncing to the right within a blue cassette block containing a double dash crystal. Fall straight down from here, then when you can, dash straight right and straight up to collect a dash crystal, then fall a bit and dash straight right again to grab the green cassette block as it appears. From there, quickly jump up and climb onto the next blue cassette block and bounce on its spring before the blocks change to pink and the platform above blocks the end of the room with spikes. Dash straight up to get past it before this happens, if needed.

Room 3

Jump onto the spring on the first blue cassette block and continue to the right until you fall to the first key token. Dash diagonally up-left into one of the pink cassette blocks to bounce right off its spring, then you'll be bounced into another spring which takes you back left, at which point you should dash straight up to stall a bit before the blocks turn yellow and one more spring is available to bounce yourself over to the right. Fall down to the other key token in the room, then dash straight left into a spring on a blue cassette block which will bounce you right into another spring, then back left at which point you should dash straight up to stall for another yellow cassette block with a spring on it to appear, allowing you to bounce over to the right and dash onto the key-activated platform and finish the room.

Room 4

This room has some skull binoculars available to preview the room, if needed. About halfway between the point of the blocks turning to pink and turning back to blue, do a wavedash to the right which should allow you to reach the gap in the large blue cassette block and grab the wall to the right as it appears. Start climbing up as much as possible, then jump straight up and dash up-right to collect the double dash crystal right as the blocks change to pink. Fall a bit and prepare to grab the right side of the blue cassette block as it re-appears. Quickly jump to the right and dash up-right twice through the pink cassette block's hitbox, then grab its right side when you pass through. Climb as much as you can before jumping right and collecting another double dash crystal. Line up a straight right dash such that it is on the same horizontal plane as the bottom part of the upcoming pink cassette block, then dash straight up after and grab the left wall when the blocks turn pink. Hold still for a bit, then jump right just before the blocks change to blue, allowing you to grab the right side of the smaller blue cassette block below. Jump up from here to climb the pink cassete block when it appears, then jump to the right before the blocks turn blue again to pass through the longest blue cassette block covered in spikes but allow yourself to grab the final blue cassette block and climb it to the ending ledge.

Room 5

This room contains pairs of cassette blocks floating with spikes on the outside and double dash crystals inbetween. There are a few ways to approach this, but the simplest way is to jump and dash up-right into the first double dash crystal a bit before the blocks turn blue. Grab the right wall, then jump and dash into the next double dash crystal as the blocks change color and repeat the process there. You can use your additional dashes to stall if the timing is off a bit, allowing you to always grab the wall before falling to the bottom. After reaching the final double dash crystals in the room, you can just continue straight to the right and dash up-right twice to reach the end.

Room 6

This room has some skull binoculars available to preview the room, if needed. The cassette blocks in this room will change from blue to pink and back to blue quite fast, so quick reactions will be needed. Watch for just when the blocks change to blue to enter the red bubble and go straight right, dashing straight down to pass the blue cassette block and reach another red bubble. When you take this red bubble to the right, dash up-right out of it to get over a small blue cassette block and enter another red bubble to the right of it. Take this straight up and collect a key token, then dash straight left immediately after to get into yet another red bubble. Aim this one straight down to collect another key token, then dash up-right to go past the pink cassette block nearby before the blocks turn to pink. Land in the lower red bubble and aim it straight up again, dashing straight right out of it while within the hitbox of a blue cassette block to fall into the furthest right red bubble. Aim it down, then dash up-right after collecting the last key token and grab onto the key-activated platform. Let go and slide down the key-activated platform and fall to the right to safely land on the ledge.

Room 7

This room has some skull binoculars available to preview the room, if needed. When the blocks are soon to change to blue, do a wavedash to the right and dash up-right to land on the faraway blue cassette block. Do another wavedash off of this cassette block to reach the pink cassette block to the right as it appears, then grab onto it. Climb and wait a bit, then jump to the right and fall down such that you can grab the lower protrusion of the yellow cassette block as it appears. When the blocks are about to change to blue, jump straight up and dash up-right to reach the nearby blue cassette block and bounce off its spring to the right. You'll then be lined up to dash straight up and do a wall bounce off of the pink cassette block above when it appears, letting you reach the double dash crystals above. Dash straight up to stall, then you can grab the left side of the yellow cassette block below when it appears. From here, jump to the right and dash diagonally up-right such that you would be within the hitbox of the cassette block above while it would normally be appearing. You can reach a smaller blue cassette block to the right with this dash, which you should climb and get on top of to bounce on its spring and allow yourself to reach the end.
