Reconciliation is the eighth subchapter of Chapter 9: Farewell in Celeste. The subchapter is a gauntlet of rooms where the goal is to reach the end and destroy the utility vaults to move on to the next room, with these challenges often utilizing purple orbs and the final new object introduced in the game, the Bird. Madeline catches the Bird, but it flies away before telling her if it is Part of Granny. Madeline and Badeline both talk for a bit, then prepare to set things right as the saturation of the game's color comes back and set out to help the Bird escape.
Gameplay[]
In this subchapter, the challenges will be fast-paced and require knowledge of many tactics utilized throughout the game, namely interactions with purple orbs, jellyfishes, pufferfishes, wavedashing, wall bouncing, and strategizing around the momentum provided by the Bird. In most rooms, there will be electricity obstacles covering much of the area as well as the right transition which must be removed by dashing twice into the utility vaults at the end.
Strategies[]
Room 1
Before reaching the final gauntlet of the game, there is one more cassette block puzzle to complete. Do a wavedash to the right at a bit before the halfway point of the blocks turning to pink, then dash right to collect the dash crystal and dash right once more to make it to the island. Get onto the upper area and do another wavedash to the right to pass just before the blocks turn to blue, then dash up-right to grab the Bird. After the cutscene, just use the purple orb to get up to the utility vault and dash into it twice, then proceed to the next room.
Room 2
Jump up and dash straight right to land on the first falling platform, then run right and jump to then wall bounce off the falling platform above to get to the right. Land on the next falling platform and let it fall, then jump to the right and dash into the purple orb, grabbing the jellyfish above after being launched up. Fall a bit and move right inbetween the electricity, then you'll be able to collect a double dash crystal and bounce on a spring. After the bounce, throw the jellyfish to the right to get it past the barrier, then fall and dash straight right and straight up to re-grab the jellyfish. Move further right into the barrier to the right and then you'll fall into the purple orb below, which will let you dash to the area with the utility vault, allowing you to destroy it. Advance to the right, then the Bird will fling you right to the ending ledge.
Room 3
Jump into the Bird's grasp and you'll be flung right, allowing you to touch the purple orb. Bounce to the right off the nearby spring, then fall to the Bird below. After being flung, dash up-right into a dash crystal and dash straight right to reach another purple orb. You'll be able to reach the Bird again, and it will launch you right to the utility vault. Dash into it twice to break it, then dash left into the Bird to let it fling you to the right and you can dash up-right to the end of the room.
Room 4
Jump to the right and dash right into the Bird, then dash up-right to grab the jellyfish after the fling, getting you enough momentum to continue right over the electricity. Throw the jellyfish above the barrier so you can fall to the Bird and be flung right to bounce back left off a spring. This will allow you to align yourself to dash straight up and get a boost up from grabbing the jellyfish. Move to the right and throw the jellyfish to the right when you reach the electricity obstacle above. After that, you can fall to a spring below and bounce yourself right, then quickly dash right into the purple orb surrounded by barriers so that you can grab the jellyfish as it passes above during the boost and take it to the right. You'll then be able to touch the Bird, allowing you to destroy the utility vault to finish the room. You can either immediately dash up-right to the ledge or use the purple orb below to get that height.
Room 5
Jump and dash into the Bird, then you'll be able to do a large bounce off the pufferfish you arrive at from the fling, allowing you to knock the pufferfish down and to the right and allowing it to launch you off its right side. Alternatively, it's possible to dash up-right over the pufferfish instead of bouncing on it, then launching yourself to the right to perfectly fit between the gap in some crystals above and reach and dash into the purple orb just the same. You'll be launched into the Bird above, then it will fling you into an area with crystals all over so you need to dash back up-left, then from there you can fall to the pufferfish below and be launched to the right into the purple orb to the right. There will then be shifting electricity columns with gaps to pass through. Dash straight right when the time is right, then you'll fall into the next purple orb and be launched back up with a refreshed dash. Dash straight right through the next gap and fall into the double dash crystal below, using it to dash straight up and straight right to then fall into another purple orb. After this launch, dash into the Bird and you'll be flung to the right. Dash straight left into the utility vault's right side, then fall into the purple orb. The purple orb's launch will refresh your dash, allowing you to destroy the utility vault with the next one, then you'll get another dash which you can use to dash into the Bird and directly to the next room.
Room 6
Do a wavedash to the right and grab the jellyfish along the way, then continue right as much as possible. Once the jellyfish reaches the barrier, dash up-right into the Bird and it will fling you to the ending ledge.
Room 7
Jump and dash into the Bird, which you can use the fling of to make it all the way to the right and directly into the first purple orb. You'll be launched up into a feather, which you need to then take right and through the gaps of the moving electricity. It should be aligned to move a bit down or up as you go right to eventually land on the Bird again. You'll be flung into a purple orb, which will launch you and allow you to touch the Bird again and be flung right even further, then you'll reach the end.
Room 8
This room will have some electricity shifting up and down, and you need to time a jump and dash straight right when the first set of electricity obstacles are at the highest point. You'll land on a falling platform, then you need to quickly jump up and dash straight right to get through another gap and fall into the purple orb. You can dash up-right and fall into a dash crystal, then use that dash to reach the purple orb. From there you can land on a falling platform, then wait for the right time to jump right and dash right when the electricity is out of the way and fall into the Bird. After being flung right, dash up-right onto the falling platform, then jump and dash into the purple orb when the electricity above is at the left, which will allow for it move to the right by the time you're launched up. Move and fall to the right to land on the Bird again, then you'll reach and be able to destroy the utility vault. After this, fall and dash straight right into a double dash crystal, then dash straight right and up-right into the Bird and you'll be flung to the end with just an up-right dash to get up.
There is an alternate path possible here, done by performing an extended hyperdash (possible by timing your jump from the hyperdash such that you actually get to keep a dash afterward) as the starting electricity is moving up from the bottom. The first cycle of the room after death also aligns this. From there you can time a dash right in the smaller gap, then after using the purple orb you can dash right through the smaller gap in the next electricity obstacle. Fall fast and use the purple orb again and you'll be there early enough to wavedash to the right and do dashes up-right to utilize the dash crystal and double dash crystal above and get to the right where the Bird would have taken you. This path is far more difficult and does not save time or skip any sections, and thus it is not recommended.
Room 9
Do a wavedash to the right and dash right to get to the right side of a pufferfish, allowing you to be blasted right. Dash straight up after this into another pufferfish's blast to the right. Do another dash to the right to reach the right side of the lower pufferfish to the right and blast yourself right to dash into the spring, which will bounce you back left. Dash up-left into the upper pufferfish and blast yourself to the right, then dash up-right to get to the point where you can fall down and bounce off a spring to the right. After this bounce, dash into the Bird, and you'll be flung to an area with a feather and lots of pufferfishes to avoid as you take it right and up and down.
Room 10
A fun secret possible in this room is that you can actually go back to the last room, which isn't normally possible in this subchapter. By dashing up and dashing into the pufferfish at the end of the last room, you can use the blast to get over the crystals in this room with one more dash and skip the first space block. However, in the main route, you can just jump and dash right into the space block and touch the purple orb, then dash straight right through the next space block. Do a space block jump to the right and dash into the Bird. Dash into the next space block and jump out of it to then dash right into another purple orb. After being flung up, quickly dash right into the Bird to avoid hitting the electricity. From the Bird's fling, you can either dash up-right over the electricity or dash straight down into the purple orb, allowing you to dash straight right slightly safer. Fall down to collect the first double dash crystals, then dash straight right and straight up into the next double dash crystals. From there, dash straight up and up-right, then fall to some more double dash crystals. Use both dashes to dash straight right and destroy the utility vault.
Room 11
Jump and dash into the Bird, then grab the jellyfish during your fling and take it to the right. Do a jellyvator technique if needed to make sure you get over the blocks of electricity and make it to the springs to the right. These can be used as much as needed, allowing you find the right time to throw and dash into the jellyfish to the right when the electricity is out of the way, collecting a double dash crystal on the way. Wait one cycle after continuing on to do this again past the next moving electricity pillar, then one more time on the last one. You can then fall into the purple orb below after the barrier destroys your jellyfish, allowing you reach the end and destroy the utility vault.
Room 12
Bounce on the pufferfish and fall to the right of it, then dash straight right into the purple orb which will activate the swap blocks to push the pufferfish right and upward. Grab the moon block to the left and climb it, then prepare to jump right and dash straight right over the pufferfish to be bounced off its right side. Fall into the Bird, then you'll be able to grab a swap block at the right. Climb up, then jump and dash up-right to grab the left side of a swap block incoming. Quickly jump over it to the right and collect the double dash crystal, then dash straight up and grab the right side of the swap block. After it arrives on the right side, dash straight right and grab the other swap block, then climb down a bit as it moves right to avoid the electricity and climb back up to jump and touch the Bird. From its fling, hold right to reach and grab another swap block. Jump to the right and dash straight right to grab the last swap block, then jump to the left to land on the swap block below and let it rise. Jump when it reaches the top of its path and you'll be able to dash up-right into the double dash crystal. Dash straight right twice and fall into the purple orb. After its launch, dash up-right to get over the utility vault. Dash into its right side once as you fall, then get launched up by the purple orb and dash into it again to destroy it, then you can finish the room.
Room 13
Jump off the ledge and dash right into the purple orb to bounce off the spring and activate the triggered platform it's attached to. Do a dash straight left back into the spring to bounce again, then dash up-right after that bounce and fall into the lower triggered platform and bounce off its spring. Dash back into it twice, then dash up to the upper spring and bounce over the electricity. Fall down to the lower spring, then from that bounce you should dash into the Bird. Hold right from the fling, then prepare to dash left into the purple orb. From the launch up, dash up-left into the remaining triggered platform's spring. Dash back into the spring four times, then bounce over the small electricity obstacle and fall a bit before dashing straight up to bounce on the spring again. Fall right and dash into the left side of the utility vault, then fall into the spring on the falling platform below. You'll be bounced into some double dash crystals, which you can use to dash straight up and straight left to break the utility vault and advance to the next room.
Room 14
This room will be a break from the electricity and utility vault hunting that was seen in the last few rooms, instead being a wavedashing test. Wavedash to the right and dash up-right to land on a falling platform. Do a wavedash off the next falling platform, then dash up-right and climb the next falling platform, then jump over it and collect the dash crystal which will allow you to do another wavedash. From this wavedash, dash straight up to be bounced off a spring to the right. This will align you to do another wavedash to the right, allowing you to reach a double dash crystal which can be used to dash up-right, then down-right into another wavedash, followed by another wavedash. After this, you need to dash up-right and grab the first of the set of falling platforms. Climb up quickly and jump to the next falling platform. Quickly climb up and get on top of the larger falling platform, then jump right and wavedash to the right off the rightmost one, allowing you to climb and dash onto the next, much taller falling platforms. Jump across the falling platforms below when you reach them and wavedash off the rightmost one to touch the Bird. From its fling, one more wavedash must be done in order to dash and climb up the ending ledge.
Room 15
Wind will blow extremely harshly to the right in this room, giving a large speed boost as you fly with the nearby feather straight right. Dash right after popping out of the feather, then start jumping across the falling platforms to the right until you can jump and dash through another miniscule gap in the electricity. Jump across more falling platforms, then prepare to do another tight straight right dash which will land you on a spring, aligning you to do another straight right dash through electricity and collect a double dash crystal. Fall for a bit until you can dash up-left and then straight right through the last gap in the electricity, then just a few more jumps across falling platforms and you can dash to the end.
Room 16
Jump and dash into the Bird, allowing you to bounce on the pufferfish to the right and then make sure to hold left to not hit the electricity. Fall a bit and move right to launch yourself right off the newly lowered pufferfish, then dash up-left from this explosion to be launched from the right side of the other pufferfish. In the next section, fall such that you can dash straight right onto the top of the next pufferfish while holding jump to get a large bounce up and allow yourself to get over the electricity to the right. Fall down and dash to the left into the pufferfish to collect the double dash crystals, which you can use out of the explosion to dash straight up twice and reach the Bird. From its fling, dash straight down and continue holding down so that you're crouching as the starbelt takes you to the right, letting you duck under the electricity above. With its momentum, jump to the right after the starbelt reaches the end of the track to reach a purple orb, then fall to the right and dash straight right into the last pufferfish and collect another double dash crystal, then use your two dashes to destroy the utility vault. After the utility vault is destroyed, dash up-left and climb to reach the end of the room.
Room 17
This room will also not feature the Bird and will instead be a refresher on the physics of the jellyfish. Do a wavedash to the right and then dash left or jump right and dash right to reach the spring below. From that bounce to the right, do a wall bounce off the nearby moon block and grab the jellyfish and take it right. Fall to the right for a bit and throw the jellyfish through the gap in the barriers. You'll fall into some double dash crystals and you'll be able to dash straight right and straight up to wall bounce and grab the jellyfish again and take it to the right, where it will be destroyed by a barrier and you'll then be able to jump and dash across the last few moon blocks to reach the end.
Room 18
You'll need to race the angry platform to the right and utilize it to make it to the end of the room. This can be done by dashing into its right side then quickly getting on top of it and dashing up-right into the Bird, then from its fling doing three wavedashes off the three falling platforms above, allowing you to arrive on top of the angry platform as it continues right. Hold down to avoid the electricity above and you'll be taken safely up by a purple orb. Destroy the utility vault and continue right to complete the subchapter and arrive at the last one of the game.
