Power Source is the third subchapter of Chapter 9: Farewell in Celeste. The subchapter begins with introductions to jellyfishes until eventually reaching a very large room covered in electricity. Another object, the utility vault, is introduced here as a method of clearing this room and the surrounding rooms of electricity obstacles.

Gameplay[]

This subchapter will start by directing the player up to a jellyfish and informing them of how to grab it. A few rooms following will have them fly across pits with jellyfishes until the main hub room for the remainder of the subchapter is reached. When entered, the Bird will be seeing flying upward out of the room and then five locks and a red bubble will appear in a straight line above Madeline. To open up access to all parts of this area, a utility vault at the top must be reached and broken which will allow access to all five surrounding rooms, each of which has a key to use on a lock. When all locks are unlocked, the red bubble can be taken straight up and will lead right into a cutscene taking the player to the next subchapter.

There are some hidden shortcuts in this subchapter intended for speedrunning that can skip sizable portions of the subchapter. The first is located in the first room of the subchapter, where an alternate path which is located above the intended one can just barely be reached with a precise diagonal dash into re-grabbing a thrown jellyfish. This will lead to some new rooms which eventually crosses back with the main route just before reaching the large hub room. The second shortcut can be done by bringing a jellyfish and a double dash into the room directly above the hub room, which the player would normally make it above by using the red bubble after opening all locks. Instead, with a carefully throw of the jellyfish, it's possible to ride the red bubble and dash straight up at the gap and grab the jellyfish, then release it and dash straight up again and re-grab it to reach the room above, which has some space to stand on below the arrangement of crystals. A hidden area in the floor to the right can be revealed, granting access to a hidden room at the right which will eventually lead the player to the end of the subchapter. This shortcut is helpful as it can allow for skipping needing to get every single key in the subchapter.

Strategies[]

Room 1

Make your way up to where the jellyfish resides and grab it, then jump to the right. Stop moving right when the electricity is in front of you, then fall down a bit before moving right again and reaching the end of the room.

Room 2

Grab the jellyfish and jump to the right and continue moving right until arriving at the spring. After bouncing on the spring, keep moving right. You'll need to eventually throw the jellyfish so that you can get onto the next platform, so dash up-right after doing so and re-grab it before landing, then jump right again. Do this once more to reach the ending ledge.

Room 3

Jump off the ledge and dash up-right and grab the jellyfish, then continue right and climb up the ledge at the right after the barrier destroys the jellyfish.

Room 4

The Bird will appear here, flying through the path to the end of the room. By just navigating over to the jellyfish, you can grab it and jump to the right and fly that direction for a while. Eventually, you'll be able to let go and dash straight up, then climb and wall jump up the corridor to make it to the next room.

Room 5

Jump to the left, then dash straight up and grab the jellyfish, giving a momentum boost upward. Move to the left to bounce on a spring, then move back right to bounce on another spring, then at the height of your bounce throw the jellyfish and dash straight up to climb to the end of the room.

Room 6

By going over the ledge to the left and dashing back right after falling a bit, a secret area with a set of skull binoculars will be revealed which are available to preview the room, if needed. Much of this room will be inaccessible because of the electricity all over blocking off many paths and objects. The red bubble at the start must be taken straight right, passing through a smashable wall and getting to the right side of the room. From here, you must enter the room to the right and collect the double dash crystal, then come back here. Jump to the left and dash straight up twice and then you'll be able to climb up to the next area. Go up-left to the next moon block and do a straight left dash when possible to grab a platform to the left and climb onto it. This will allow you to open up a temple gate and access another double dash crystal. Start jumping to the left over the various platforms until you make it to a section with a thin open space between electricity obstacles which you can use that double dash to get through by dashing straight left twice, making it to another new moon block. Climb up and dash up-left to get to the next area, bouncing up the spring and wall jumping to reach the top. Enter the room above and retrieve a jellyfish from there, then bring it back down. With the jellyfish, jump to the right to get over the electricity, then start moving back left, then back right again to safely land in the area past the barrier. Press the dash switch in this area to open a temple gate and give access to jellyfishes for the rest of the room. Take a jellyfish from here to the right until you reach the opened-up area with the double dash crystal and collect it. Jump left to bounce up on a spring, then move right to be bounced left by a spring above. Once you reach the upper area, you can throw away the jellyfish and prepare to reach the utility vault above. Jump to the right and dash straight up twice at the gap in the crystals to get to its location, then destroy the utility vault, removing all electricity from the surrounding area.

From here, you're free to go to any of the five surrounding rooms in any order you'd like to get all of the keys needed to open every lock. When this is accomplished, you can take the red bubble straight up to get to the end.

Bottom-Right

This room has some skull binoculars available to preview the room, if needed. Collect the double dash crystal and grab the jellyfish, then simply jump right and continue holding that way. Throw the jellyfish and dash up-right and re-grab it before falling too far down. Do this once more to reach the key. When collecting all of these keys, you'll be taken back to the start of the room in a bubble instantly after.

Top-Right

This room has some skull binoculars available to preview the room, if needed. Jump to the right and dash up-right into the double dash crystal, then dash up-right once more and grab the jellyfish. Continue right a bit, then throw the jellyfish to the right (such that it passes through the crystals above the moon block) and fall down. Dash straight right into the double dash crystal, then dash straight up then up-right and re-grab the jellyfish, then move right to reach the key.

Bottom-Left

This room has some skull binoculars available to preview the room, if needed. Grab the jellyfish and jump to the left. You'll need to throw the jellyfish at the dash switch to the left to activate it and open a temple gate above. For this, pay attention to the jellyfish's location and not Madeline's, and at a fair distance away throw the jellyfish, then dash straight up and re-grab it when it bounces back right and move to the left. You'll collect a dash crystal, then have to throw the jellyfish again at another dash switch and repeat the process. If you miss the dash switch this time, you can still re-grab the jellyfish and move back to the dash crystal and try again. After this, move left and you'll reach the key.

Top-Left

This room has some skull binoculars available to preview the room, if needed. The main challenge in this level is getting up quickly utilizing triggered platforms with springs. Grab the jellyfish, then jump left into the first spring and float to the right and bounce on the spring on the right back to the left. When approaching the moon block above, throw the jellyfish and dash up and re-grab it quickly after about the width of Madeline's hitbox away from the spikes, then move left to bounce on the spring again. Move further to the right and you'll reach a double dash crystal before you then bounce left off of the spring to the right. Throw the jellyfish again with the same timing for the next moon block you reach, then do this again and move left to bounce on the spring. From here you can continue your bounces to the right and left or just dash straight upward into the key above to complete the room.

Top

This room has some skull binoculars available to preview the room, if needed. Ride the red bubble to the right, then dash up-right and grab the jellyfish and use the momentum to get to a section to the right with a few key tokens. Fall down to the double dash crystal, then throw the jellyfish and dash up-right twice in a row to get up to a key token at the top. Fall down from here, collecting the double dash crystal and next key token, then repeat the process of throwing the jellyfish and dashing up-right to re-grab it twice and you'll reach the final key token. This will move the key-activated platform to the right open up an area where you can go into to collect the key. This room is also where you'll pass through after collecting every key and unlocking every lock, going straight up with the red bubble in the room below.

Room 12

When entering this room from the red bubble from straight below, you'll be locked in and continue straight upward and the music will change whilst you pass by an early sighting of starblades a while before their formal introduction. You'll arrive in the next subchapter without doing anything.

Secret Routes[]

In the first room of the subchapter, instead of going down below the electricity at the right, you can see a path is available to go above. By jumping just at the edge of the of the moon block with the jellyfish and throwing the jellyfish into dashing up-right to re-grab it, you can barely make it over a bump in the electricity and reach a new area. You'll have to touch a barrier which destroys the jellyfish you're holding, and at this point you'll fall into a dash crystal. When this happens, do a wavedash to the right immediately off of the falling platform and dash straight right afterward between the gap of electricity and reach the right ledge to go to the next room.

In this next room, you can jump across some separated floors until finding a jellyfish floating to the right. A bit after jumping right and grabbing it, wind will suddenly begin to blow upward slightly. Just move right and nudge yourself downward if needed until reaching the barrier, then you'll land at the right. Continue going right until reaching another jellyfish floating in front of a ledge. Do a wave dash to the right such that you grab the jellyfish during your travel. Wind will start to harshly blow to the right, so before you collide with crystals to the right you need to throw the jellyfish and dash up-right to re-grab it, allowing you to collect a double dash crystal. Keep flying right until you touch the barrier, then do two dashes upward to reach the ledge above.

There's another room after this with electricity sticking far out in two directions. Stand at the edge and jump to the right and dash straight right to barely get past the electricity, then move back left and land on a moon block below. Repeat this but to the left and you'll fall onto another moon block. Do this one more time to the right again and you'll reach the end of the room. This will link into a secret area in the fifth room of the subchapter with a spring that leads you back to the normal route.

Another secret that can be found here allows you to skip all of the key hunting in the latter part of the subchapter. Make your way normally up to the point where you destroy the utility vault. Bring a jellyfish and a double dash up to the top of the room and go to the right straight above. It might be a bit tricky to get in here as it will require jumping off the very edge of a moon block nearby and then just barely being able to do wall jumps up the corridor. After reaching the room above with a jellyfish and double dash intact, stand to the right of the ledge below the red bubble and prepare for a very tricky maneuver. Standing 3 pixels away from the bump in the floor and facing right, do a slight hop and throw the jellyfish to the right then enter the red bubble and go to the right. If the timing is right, you can dash straight up out of the red bubble at the same time as the jellyfish is passing by the gap above and grab the jellyfish without dying. Move yourself a bit closer to the middle and throw the jellyfish, then immediately dash straight up and grab it again to be boosted into the room above. There will be a small area to stand on the left and right of the gap, but there's a noticeable gap in the crystals to the right. You can reliably make it into this gap by standing at the very leftmost pixel of the right side of the gap and doing a dash up-right. When landing, the floor will reveal a hidden area and a dash will be needed to bypass a small platform to the right. From there, climb up and dash straight up to the moon block above, then wall jump to the right transition between the crystals.

This will lead into a secret room to the right which will be partially focused around wall bounces. This room has some skull binoculars available to preview the room, if needed. Jump to the right and climb up the first moon block. Jump to the right and dash up-right, collect the dash crystal, and dash up-right again to reach another moon block. Do a wall bounce off of the left side of the moon block above to reach a double dash crystal. Use your double dashes to do another wall bounce off the next moon block, collecting a dash crystal as you move to the left, then grab the next moon block. Jump to the left, then dash up-left and you'll arrive at a red bubble. Take this up-right to reach another red bubble, then take this one straight up, then take one more up-left and you'll be at the top of the room you skipped into earlier, allowing you to climb to the end.
